The weekend is here!

We made it!

I’m sitting on my deck, enjoying the cool wind and I chuckled as I remembered this neat story and wanted to share this freshly baked biscuit of hope with you 🙂

So, one Sunday morning at a small Southern church, the new pastor called on one of his deacons to lead in the opening prayer.
The deacon stood up, bowed his head and said, “Lord I hate buttermilk.”
The pastor opened one eye and wondered where this was going.
The deacon continued, “Lord I hate lard.”
Now the pastor was totally perplexed.
The deacon continued, “Lord, I ain’t too crazy about plain flour. But after you mix ‘em all together and bake ‘em in a hot oven, I love biscuits.”

Lord, help us to realize when life gets hard, when things come up that we don’t like, whenever we don’t understand what You are doing, that we need to wait to see what You are making.
After You get through the mixing and the baking, you bet it will better than the biscuits!

Excellent day to share a feel good recipe.

A couple weeks ago, I discovered that I have been gluten sensitive for many years; symptoms I thought were somehow “normal,” have now disappeared or drastically improved in this short window!

Amazing!!!

I feel as though I have grown wings and can fly! 🙂

The hills AND valleys…

I know you’re probably wondering “how in godzilla can she say the valleys?”

Well here’s why and I’m not BS-ing you:

1) nothing lasts forever, change is the only constant

&

2) it’s in the valleys our faith is tested, it produces steadfastness, perseverance & opportunities to grow!

I did not always know this, but now I do – it’s all part of adulting.

Enough with the “why me?”

Get it done!

I’m not the same person I was a couple years ago and I have no intentions of ever remaining the same!

I’m saying “yay” to constant growth!

Perspective  … perspective … perspective.

I know being alive is a humungous blessing so I intend to make the most of MY LIFE!

5 tips to pep stepping

I had no intentions of blogging today but I’m bouncing off the walls!

Whoopee! Beam me up Scotty!

I have so much energy!!!

I truly want you to experience it too.

Yes you!

Through my lens, we are all in this together, there is no competition just community … I share because I care.

I’m mushy like that!

I must credit this euphoria to the new and improved fuel I’ve been feeding my body.

I’m standing on my soapbox to say, “we not only wear what we eat, we also feel it!”

I’m very familiar on both counts, because not only was I looking like a double crusted pizza with all the toppings [I’m laughed out loud as I typed that], I also had ZERO energy or ZEAL to move.

It sure feels GREAT to have a pep in my step!!

I’m no expert but I’ve been in a relationship with myself 41 years & counting, so trust I know when something is shifting and it’s good!

HashTag My journey.

I’m continuously switching out my ‘old normals’ for new ones.

I’m sowing permanent seeds of change, in order to reap permanent results.

So on to the good news:

  • COOK your own food. This is the only way you can ensure you’re getting the best ingredients AND you will save money. Win-win.
  • READ the nutrition labels. I repeat READ those labels, if you can’t pronounce it, your body cannot process it, capiche?!
  • EAT whole foods. My simple definition of this is, eat the food is in its closest natural form. Have a boiled or baked sweet potato over a bag of processed sweet potato chips! I don’t care if the packaging says  “organic” – its too processed! – Be sure to check online for a CSA (community supported agriculture) in your area. Great organic, farmed fresh vegetables and fruits at a fraction of the cost. It’s awesome!
  • AVOID processed food as much as you can.
  • REMOVE sugar from your diet. Educate yourself: there are at least 61 different names for sugar listed on food labels. These include common names, such as sucrose and high-fructose corn syrup, as well as barley malt, dextrose, maltose and rice syrupThese are the alternatives I use: stevia, honey, maple syrup and date sugar. NO artificial poison, sorry sweeteners… we don’t want to be thin corpses. No we don’t!

Taking care of my body is self respect.

It’s the instrument of my life, not an ornament.

We place far too much emphasis on material things, we take our cars through the car wash, hand-wash floors (yes I know someone who does lol!) –  but find it difficult to invest in our health?!

From apple pie & iced tea to green banana flour & tulsi : Take 1…

I am no saint when it comes to eating healthy.

My diet a couple months ago resembled an all-American apple pie — loaded with high fructose corn syrup, white flour, sugar, GMO-based, refined, processed everything and more sugary “goodness” – and if that wasn’t bad enough, I added whipped cream on top !!!

You know the saying “you are what you eat!”

Well, I was a deep pan crust pizza with all the toppings.

When or how did this happen?

Ohhhh I get it, all the times I spoke about getting fit and starting my lifestyle change tomorrow – never happened.

“Procrastination is the thief of time, collar him.”

After a good cry and a week of being depressed, I made an appointment with the culprit: moi and we had coffee together.

The discussion went something like: “Ok missy, you know how you want to look, how you want to feel and the all the grandiose things you want to do!

You also know that without health everything else is L-O-S-T!

Remember when you saw daddy die in front your eyes and how scared you were?

LEIAN!

STOP with the excuses! Your life depends on your own actions! Now! Just do it!!!”

That went really well.

So I made a firm decision then and there to not be a pie anymore, or worse allow myself to spiral out of control and possibly be transformed into an entire bakery!

NO MORE.

I was going to become a running health nut!

I MADE THE CHANGE. I AM CHANGING DAILY.

It’s not easy sailing, it’s hard work, dedication, focus and being intentional.

I slipped a few times,  seriously breaking bad diet habits is like breaking an addiction, I say “is” because I still have insane cravings at times.

But the key is I dust my butt and I keep going.

Every second of every day is a gift to reset, start again and do it right!

Utilize it.

Slow and steady is still progress.

I remembered a couple years ago my then personal trainer told me “80% food 20% exercise” is key.

So I began by changing my diet.

It’s been a month or so and I’ve been trying new products. I’ll share with you some of my goodies which were delivered yesterday 🙂

Remember I said, slow and steady?

For example, I started with cutting out dairy and sugar in my coffee and now I only use nut creamer with stevia. It tastes really good! I recommend the nut pods dairy free coffee creamer (unsweetened) and KAL stevia.

You can thank me later 🙂

It’s a journey  – so I will share my progress with you at different intervals. My goal is set for Nov 2017… we must set goals in everything we do.

If we aim at nothing, we will hit it every time!

It’s time to invest in good health!

I also want to thank my heaven sent husband Cam for his encouragement and unending love!

He  is my best friend, my mentor, my confidante, my shoulder to cry on and the holder of my best interests.

He is the perfect balance to my crazy.

I’ve been blessed beyond measure to have a husband as awesome as him.

Cam you’re everything and more; I love you to Pluto and back honey!!! *kiss

The date sugar is not sugar at all, it is real dates pulsed to look like sugar – the only ingredient: dates. Do your research on the benefits of dates. Your body will thank you.

Bone broth! Amazing.

Tulsi/holy basil.. Ah-mazing!

BTW, if you’re wondering if I’m vegan, vegetarian, pescatarian etc the answer is “NO.”

I’m actually a  “Leiantarian” – which is my own customized eating plan, developed by moi, to suit moi  *smile

I never was/don’t intend to be a “labels” person; nor do I ever want to “fit in” so Leiantarian it is! 😉

Hey, do you want to feel good again both mentally and physically?

Do what I did, have coffee with yourself and CHANGE NOW!

I am speaking from experience when I say: “the only person who is keeping you back is, you.”

Start by doing what’s necessary; then do what’s possible; and suddenly you are doing the impossible.
